Uddhav calls PM over oxygen, told Modi on W. Bengal tour
Uddhav needs to stop his daily dose of shameless politics: Goyal
Union health minister Harsh Vardhan has assured Maharashtra of an adequate and Uddhav uninterrupted Thackeray supply of medical oxygen and other resources during the coronavirus pandemic. The assurance came after Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s claim that he had contacted the Prime Minister’s Office to inform about the acute shortage of medical oxygen and Ramdesivir, but was told that the PM is in Bengal for the election campaign. Meanwhile, Union minister Piyush Goyal asked Mr Thackeray to “stop his daily dose of shameless politics.”
Union health minister Harsh Vardhan has assured Maharashtra of an adequate and uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen and other resources during the pandemic. The assurance came after Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s claim that he had contacted the Prime Minister’s Office to inform about the acute shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir, but was told that the PM is in Bengal for the election campaign. Union minister Piyush Goyal hit out against the Maharashtra CM and said he should “stop his daily dose of shameless politics and take responsibility”.
“Spoke to #Maharashtra CM Sh Uddhav Thackeray Ji. Reassured @OfficeofUT of adequate & uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen & all possible support w.r.t healthcare infra, medicines & therapeutics. Additional 1,121 ventilators are also being rushed to them given the surge in cases,” the health minister said.
Dr Vardhan added that he held discussions with Mr Thackeray’s office to discuss stringent action to be taken for containment, surveillance and treatment of Covid-19 cases in the state.
Maharashtra has been the worst coronavirus-affected state in the country with Saturday recording 67,123 cases and 419 deaths due to Covid-19. The state has recorded 37.70 lakh coronavirus cases and 59,970 deaths so far.
Earlier, state’s minority affairs minister Nawab Malik had accused PM Modi of being busy in elections while “people are dying.” He claimed that Mr Thackeray tried the PM over the shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir, a drug for Covid-19 treatment, but was told he was on a visit to West Bengal.
However, Mr Goyal refuted the allegations saying Maharashtra has received the highest quantity of oxygen in the country. “Saddened to see @OfficeOfUT’s gimmicks on oxygen. GoI, with all stakeholders, is ensuring maximum oxygen production in India...” Mr Goyal tweeted.
