From Singham to Rudra

Ajay Devgn returns as a more dark and intense cop

-

Ajay Devgn will be reprising the role played by Idris Elba in the BBC show Luther. He will play the Indian version of Detective Chief Inspector John Luther in the crime drama.

We had reported in August last year that Devgn was in talks with Disney+ Hotstar in this regard, and now, it’s official. “Rudra — The Edge of Darkness is a compelling and highly intriguing story and I can’t wait to begin this new journey!” says Ajay.

The original show backed by BBC also starred Ruth Wilson and aired for six episodes in the first season. This was followed by four more episodes in the second season, four in the third, two in the fourth and four more in the fifth season. “My attempt has always been to tell unique stories and work with good talent. The idea is to raise the bar of entertainment in India. The digital world excites me, and I am looking forward to working with Applause and BBC to bring this series to life. Playing a cop on screen is not new to me, but this time the character is more intense, complex and dark. What drew me most to his persona is that he is possibly the greyest character you have come across in recent times,” says Ajay.

The show, helmed by Sameer Nair, is being produced by Applause Entertainment which is also producing many web shows.
