Yechury’s 34-yr-old son Ashish dies due to Covid

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s older son Ashish died due to Covid-19 complications at 5.30 am Thursday at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital. Mr Yechury tweeted: “It is with great sadness that I have to say I lost my elder son Ashish Yechury to Covid-19 this morning. I want to thank all who gave us hope and who treated him… and innumerable others who stood by us.” Ashish, who studied at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, worked in several publications, including Times of India in Delhi, before moving to Pune. He would have been 35 in June.

Condolences poured in from across the political spectrum, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
