Yechury’s 34-yr-old son Ashish dies due to Covid

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s older son Ashish died due to Covid-19 complicati­ons at 5.30 am Thursday at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital. Mr Yechury tweeted: “It is with great sadness that I have to say I lost my elder son Ashish Yechury to Covid-19 this morning. I want to thank all who gave us hope and who treated him… and innumerabl­e others who stood by us.” Ashish, who studied at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, worked in several publicatio­ns, including Times of India in Delhi, before moving to Pune. He would have been 35 in June.

Condolence­s poured in from across the political spectrum, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
