Senior journalist Renu Agal, who was undergoing treatment after being hit by a car near North Delhi’s Civil Lines area a month ago, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night.

The driver was identified as Gaurav Batra (39), a resident of Kali Bari Marg, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The accused works at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The police said he was arrested and later released on bail.

It said that Agal was in the rickshaw when the incident took place. The rickshaw puller, identified as Chand, also succumbed to his injuries days after the accident.

According to the police, an FIR was registered on March 25 after the police received a complaint from a police official, who was at the spot at the time of the incident.

“At around 5.15 pm, when I was waiting for my colleague, I saw a car coming from the direction of Vidhan Sabha. It was being driven rashly and in a zigzag manner. The errant driver lost control over the vehicle and first hit a man. After hitting him, he rammed into the rickshaw following which the woman sitting in the rickshaw fell down,” the complaint read.
