Ganga Ram among hospitals to halt vaccine drive in Delhi

Hospitals due to vaccine shortage

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Paucity of vaccines in the national capital has forced several government and private hospitals to stall the inoculation drive. While some hospitals as a last resort had to discontinue the vaccination drive last week, with the shortage of vaccines availability, it has become a herculean task for several hospitals management to deal with the crisis.

According to officials, though there has been a shortage of vaccine in the city, the city hospitals have the capacity to vaccinate more people. On Wednesday, the Delhi Government received 2,67,790 doses of Covishield vaccine for people in the 18 to 44 years age group. It has become a concern for hospitals like Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Super

Speciality Hospital, Fortis Health Care and others to continue the inoculation drive.

As per an official from Rajiv Gandhi Super

Speciality Hospital, the Covid vaccination drive can’t be expanded as it is getting only 200 doses of Covishield every day. According to the information, the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital the management said that they had to vaccinate 600 people every day. However due to the shortage in the vaccine supply, the management has not been able to do so. With all the necessary infrastructure ready, the management said to receive only 200 doses of vaccine. “Once we start getting more doses, we will vaccinate as many people as we can,” added a senior official.

In a similar case, the vaccination drive had to be suspended temporarily after the management of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital faced paucity of the vaccine supply. As per the hospital management, the drive has been put on hold since May 1. Sources at the hospital said over 12,500 people were inoculated at the hospital’s vaccination site between March 1 and April 30.
