Welsh catch Swiss in the nick of time

-

Baku, June 12: A header from towering Kieffer Moore claimed a point for Wales in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in Baku on Saturday to start both teams’ Euro 2020 campaigns.

Moore responded to Breel Embolo’s second-half opener with a quarter of an hour remaining. Both sides trail Group ‘A’ leaders Italy, who beat Turkey 3-0 in Friday’s tournament curtain-raiser.

After a quarter of an hour played, Dan James broke free down the left before finding 1.95 metretall Moore who forced Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer to tip the ball over the bar. From the resulting corner, Moore rose highest again and clashed in the air with Manuel Akanji, which left the Cardiff forward playing the remainder of the game with red tape around his head.

With Moore bandaged, the momentum swung towards Wales and they dominated the remainder of the half.
