BJP: Anarchy has no place, Mamata should ‘introspect’

Insisting that the Calcutta high court has given a “strong message that anarchy has no place in any part of India”, the BJP on Thursday asked West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to “introspect”. The party said the court has sent a strong message that should be a “milestone” as it has made it clear that “anarchy has no place in India”.

In the alleged post-poll violence case in West Bengal, the high court has ordered a CBI probe into grievous cases like murder and rape as well as the formation of a special investigat­ion team to probe all other offences related to the post-poll violence. The BJP alleged many of its supporters and cadre became victims of political violence after the TMC retained power in the state.

Citing the National Human Rights Commission report and the court’s order, BJP spokesman Gaurav Bhatia said people’s complaints were not heard by the state police after the violence erupted following the TMC’s triumph in the Assembly polls and that the state government allegedly provided protection to criminals. He alleged that prima facie the accused are from the Trinamul Congress.

“The voluminous documents (before the court) formed part of the record reflects the cry of the deprived person,” said BJP state coin-charge Amit Malviya, who also posted a paragraph of the court order that read: “The court cannot be a mute spectator nor should be apathetic to the voices of the persons who felt aggrieved but must rise to the occasion and protect (their) rights.”

Mr Malviya said what was “very serious” was that the state had not responded to the alleged offences of murder and rape, as tabulated in the judgment, which are “grievous, serious and heinous”.
