Akshay’s next is a historical thriller

Akshay Kumar a.k.a. Khiladi Kumar speaks about his upcoming thriller and some more

- LIPIKA VARMA

Akshay Kumar, who is presently quarantined for his next film’s shoot, was sport enough to answer a volley of questions about his upcoming film and more via a video conference. Excerpts from our interaction with the actor:

Had you researched about the 1984-plane hijack, around which the film, Bell Bottom revolves?

I just remember that a plane was hijacked in 1984. However, I was not aware about it in detail. But by reading newspaper cuttings as well as the story line and screenplay written, I got the entire feel and know-how about the hair-raising incident.

It must have been risky to follow the protocol and shoot during trying times

Vashu Bhagnani is the first producer who shot this film in London when the entire environment was still considered risky. So I think we’re thankful to the producer who took all the risk. I take risks only in reel life — the ‘Akshay Kumar’ of the real life is Vashuji. Besides, the film as the first theatre release since the second wave of the pandemic shut down theatres

Director Ranjit Tiwary had failed to give a hit film. Why did you still prefer him?

I’ve seen that hunger in him, wanting to give his 100%. Successful or unsuccessful, we all are playing the game and are giving it our best.

What’s your next film

It’s a historical one again and producer Vashu has already signed me for his next untitled film. It is also a thriller.

You look as fit as a fiddle in the film

Since I’ve entered B-wood, 30 years ago, I’ve decided to just keep my head down and keep working. Going ahead for another 20 years, hopefully, I look forward to completing your 50 years in the industry.
