Army Court of Inquiry begins probe in Naga case
Indian Army has started Court of Inquiry headed by a Major General rank officer to probe the killings of civilians in Nagaland. The officer is posted in Northeast sector and will enquire the reasons that led to the killing of civilians in the botched up operation. It will look at the source of the intelligence that led to the ambush and how it was processed. The CoI will look at the whole sequence of the events on that unfortunate day.
Indian Army's 3 Corps had said on Sunday that "cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per the course of law." It had said that incident and its aftermath was deeply regretted.
Army had received intelligence about the movement of NSCN (K) extremists in the Mon district on Saturday. On that basis, one unit of Army's 21 Para Commando was brought from Assam and laid an ambush in area.
