PE/VC investment­s at record $72.6 bn

With one more month to go, private equity and venture capital investment­s in 2021 have surpassed the alltime high recorded in 2020 by 53 per cent. Cumulative exits in 2021 till date have recorded $42.3 billion, up 57 per cent compared to the previous high of $27 billion recorded in 2018.

At $72.6 billion, the total investment­s in the 11 months of 2021 are 53 per cent higher than $47.6 billion attracted in the entire year of 2020.

November 2021 recorded investment­s worth $6.8 billion across 102 deals, including 17 large deals worth $5.4 billion. This was 76 per cent higher than $3.9 billion in November 2020, but 52 per cent lower than $13.1 billion recorded in October 2021, says an IVCA-EY report. November 2021 had 17 deals of $100 million-plus value.

November 2021 recorded 21 exits worth $3.6 billion compared to $974 million recorded in November 2020 and $5.3 billion recorded in October 2021. Cumulative exits in 2021 till date have recorded $42.3 billion, 57 per cent higher compared to the previous high of $27 billion recorded in 2018.

November also had a record number of nine

PE/VC backed IPOs, taking the total count of PE/VC backed IPOs in 2021 to 39, which is the highest ever. Nine PE-backed IPOs saw PE/VC funds garner $1.8 billion in proceeds. Exits via secondary sale were second highest at $1.5 billion across two deals.

“Investment activity in November 2021 was dominated by start-ups and exits were dominated by PE-backed IPOs. Start-up investment­s in November 2021 stood at $2.4 billion with 50 per cent of the investment­s coming into ecommerce and technology sectors. said Vivek Soni, partner and national leader PE services, EY.
