Gross FDI inflows moderates to $54.1 bn
Jan. 31: Net foreign direct investment recorded a lower inflow of 24.7 billion and the gross FDI moderated to $54.1 billion in AprilNov. 2021 due to sluggish equity investment. Computer software and hardware attracted the highest FDI equity inflows of $7.1 billion in AprilSept. 2021. Singapore continues to be the top investing country in terms of FDI equity inflow, followed by the US. Over the last seven financial years (201421), India has received an FDI inflow worth $440.27 billion, nearly 58 per cent of the FDI received by the country in the last 21 years ($763.83 billion).
Fleet strength rose to 1,463 vessels in 2021
India's fleet strength increased to 1,463 vessels with gross tonnage (GT) of 13,011,000 as of December 31, 2021. At the end of 2019,
India had 1,429 vessels and 12,746,000 of GT. "However, Indian fleet is just 1.2 per cent of world's fleet in terms of capacity and carries only 7.8 per cent (for 2018-19) of India's exim trade," the Survey said.
3,400 acres of land referred by CPSEs for sale
The government has set up a National Land Monetisation Corporation to fast track monetisation of land and non-core assets of public sector entities. So far, CPSEs have referred 3,400 acres of land and other non-core assets for monetisation, including MTNL, BSNL, BPCL, B&R, BEML, HMT Ltd and Instrumentation Ltd. "In pursuance of the Budget announcement, National Land Monetisation Corporation (NLMC) is being incorporated as a 100 per cent Government of India owned entity with an initial authorised share capital of Rs 5,000 crore and subscribed share capital of Rs 150 crore," the Survey said.
Retail participation in equity market rises
Retail investors' interest in the securities market has seen a major uptick, as 2.21 crore individual demat accounts were added in April-Nov. 2021."The share of individual investors in total turnover at NSE increased from 38.8 per cent in 2019-20 to 44.7 per cent in April-Oct. 2021," the Survey noted. In April-Nov, 221 lakh individual demat accounts were added.
IPO boom: 75 firms mobilise `89,066 crore
The primary market has seen hectic fundraising activity in April-Nov. 2021, with 75 companies garnering Rs 89,066 crore through their IPOs. —FC Bureau
