Daily Covid cases drop below 2 lakh, 1,192 die in 24 hrs

New Delhi: In a major relief, India’s daily Covid-19 cases dropped below the 2-lakh mark with 1,67,059 new infections being reported in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate also declined from 15.7 per cent to 11.6 per cent. The weekly positivity rate has also dipped slightly to 15.25 per cent from previous day’s 15.75 per cent. However, with a whopping 1,192 deaths recorded in the same time span, including a backlog of 638 fatalities from Kerala, the country’s death toll due climbed to 4,96,242. India’s active caseload now stands at 17,43,059.

However, with a whopping 1,192 deaths recorded in the same time span, including a backlog of 638 fatalities from Kerala, the country's death toll due to Covid-19 climbed to 4,96,242.

India’s active caseload, which stands at 17,43,059, accounts for 4.20 per cent of the total cases. With 2,54,076 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours, the cumulative recoveries have gone up to 3,92,30,198. The recovery rate has slightly improved to 94.60 per cent from 94.37 per cent on Monday.

As many as 14,28,672 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours to detect the presence of Covid-19 virus. The vaccinatio­ns went up by over 60 lakh in the same time span. These included 6,28,414 booster doses and 9,87,960 vaccine shots administer­ed to children in the 1518 age group.

Over 166.68 crore vaccine doses have been administer­ed so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccinatio­n drive. India commenced the vaccinatio­n process on January 16, 2021, with an ambitious target to inoculate its entire eligible population by December 2021, with at least the first dose.
