Greatest danger to India is BJP, its ideology: Rahul

- RABINDRA NATH CHOUDHURY

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that BJP and its ideology have posed greatest danger to the country today.

Launching a welfare programme for landless agriculture labourers here, Mr Gandhi said that BJP sought to impose one ideology and one culture on the people in the country which drew its strength “unity in diversity”.

“The feeling of brotherhood is called Hindustan. BJP is attacking this very foundation of Hindustan by trying to impose one ideology and one culture in the country”, he said.

“We will resist such a move. This will never happen”, he added.

Mr Gandhi said this country was like a bouquet where different cultures, languages and thoughts co-existed harmoniously.

But, BJP was trying to pit one state against another state and one religion against another religion, he said.

Mr Gandhi also reiterated the ‘two Indias’ narrative saying that the Centre’s policies have led to creation of two distinct sections, one is ‘haves’ comprising a ‘select 200500 rich people’ who have access to the resources of the country and the other is ‘have-nots’, the poor people who constitute the majority. He said that the country’s progress was not the contribution of any single party, but because of the farmers, labourers and the artisans.

The deprived sections in the society should also be benefited equally by the progress of the country, he added.

He lamented that those who contributed to nation building were being marginalised.

Mr Gandhi launched the “Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Krishi Mazdoor Nyay Yojana”, providing financial assistance of `6,000 per annum each to the 4.5 lakh registered landless agriculture labourers in Chhattisgarh.
