‘Ravanasaura role has new shades’

Sushanth feels this is an exciting time for actors

So will the audience get to see Sushanth in Hindi soon, we ask. “It’s premature to comment at this point because it’s still early days, but we have been in talks, and hopefully I might take up a project this year if all goes well

The recent announcement by the makers of the Ravi Teja-starrer Ravansaura that Sushanth would have a significant role in it came as a surprise to many. In fact, the actor himself was surprised when he was approached for the part. I wasn’t expecting the call,” says Sushanth, adding that he was curious to learn more about the script. “I knew the team was young and I have great regard for Ravi Teja garu. After listening to the script, I felt it was unique and interesting,” says the actor, adding that his role would be crucial and narrative-driven. “Producer Abhishek Nama said they wanted a reputed hero who can be a performer too. And after listening to the script, my instinct said, ‘do it’,” says Sushanth, who hasn’t really been guiding his career in any particular direction. His approach is to go with the flow. “I haven’t planned anything, I’m just taking things as they come,” he says.

Though he is not at liberty to talk about the role, Sushanth reveals that director Sudheer Varma did tweak it a bit after he came on board. He also expressed confidence that audiences would find his character memorable.

“I am looking forward to working with Ravi Teja garu; he’s full of energy,” says Sushanth, who recently began shooting for his part.

“The role has a few new and interesting shades. Also, it satisfies me as an actor and I love the kind of clarity the makers have on every character and the script,” shares Sushanth. He also reveals that he has been given a stylish makeover.

Post the super success of the Allu Arjun-starrer Ala Vaikuntapuram Lo (ALVP), in which Sushanth played a pivotal role, filmmakers have been seeing him differently. The actor is being approached for interesting roles for big ticket flicks, apart from films as protagonist. “Doing ALVP was a gut call, and the love and appreciation I got for the role was huge. Even when I go to Mumbai, they talk about it. I was also approached for Hindi projects and web series too. It’s all new for me,” reveals the Adda actor, adding that with emerging opportunities and multiple avenues opening up, he’s in a good place.

New roles give him the opportunity to experiment and be versatile. “What works on a digital platform perhaps does not suit the silver screen, and vice-versa. So I am observing and learning from different platforms,” Sushanth adds.

The more opportunities there are, the more exciting it becomes. “The challenge to stay relevant has always been there. But these days, writers are not shying away from exploring new characters; it’s truly an exciting time for an actor,” Sushanth says, signing off.
