Man killed, driver hurt in road mishap

A 31-year-old man was killed while his driver sustained injuries after their car rammed into an East Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n (EDMC) truck parked on the road in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak Gulati, a resident of New Jain Colony in Uttam Nagar while his driver, Raja alias Shahzad (38), has been admitted to a hospital.

No one was present inside the EDMC truck which had a flat tire and was found parked on the road, police said. According to Usha Rangnani, deputy commission­er of police (Northwest district), Gulati was travelling to a sabzi mandi with his driver Raja in a Maruti Eeco car when the accident took place.

“The injured persons were immediatel­y shifted to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital where Gulati was declared brought dead. His driver was referred to another hospital where he is presently under treatment,” said the DCP.

The police said footage from CCTV cameras installed in and near the accident spot are being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events.

In another incident, a search team on Tuesday found the body of a 24year-old man from Delhi who was missing since the last four days from a popular tourist viewpoint in Lonavala hill station of Pune district, police said.The body was found several feet deep in a gorge here, they said.

The man, Farhan Serajjuddi­n, had been on a sightseein­g trip of Lonavala, located around 65 km from Maharashtr­a's Pune city, and when he went to the Duke's Nose, a viewpoint popular with trekkers, he lost his way, they said.

He had initially managed to contact his friend though mobile phone to inform that he had lost his way back, but later his phone was not reachable, the police earlier said.

Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), INS Shivaji naval station in Lonavala, Pune rural police and some local groups were searching for the man since the last three days and had tried to trace his phone location. The police had also used drones to trace the man.
