Married man attacks girlfriend with knife, consumes acid

New Delhi: A 30-year-old man allegedly attacked his girlfriend with a knife and later consumed acid in west Delhi’s Ranhola area, police said on Tuesday. According to police, the accused got married and the victim started ignoring him which enraged him and he attacked her. On Friday, police got informatio­n that a woman was stabbed with a knife near RP World School, Deepak Vihar, Ranhola by a person who ran away, they said. Police rushed to the spot and found that the injured was already taken to a nursing home for treatment by her parents, they said. Police recorded her statement where she stated that she was in a relationsh­ip with one Naveen Kumar for the last three years, a senior police officer said. Kumar got married and the victim asked him to end the relationsh­ip but Kumar kept insisting her to continue it. The victim wanted to end everything and also started ignoring him and stopped picking-up his calls, the officer said. Kumar was seeking an opportunit­y to attack the woman for ignoring him, police said, adding that the accused knew that the victim goes for her computer classes daily. On Friday when she was going for her class, Kumar chased her and stopped her near RP World School. He asked her the reason for ignoring and not picking-up his phone calls and attacked the victim with a knife, causing a stab injury on her thigh, the officer said. The victim was discharged from the hospital on the same day. During investigat­ion, it came to notice that Kumar drank acid after attacking the victim. He is under treatment at DDU hospital. The acid bottle was also recovered, police said.
