Adarsh’s Kiss to premiere in OZ
A pot shot at the Censor Board
Adarsh Gourav, who shot to international fame with his performance in The White Tiger last year, is looking forward to his short film Kiss premiering at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
The film, which has Swanand Kirkire, Shubhrajyoti Barat and Chetan Sharma in pivotal roles, is also the directorial debut of screenwriter and stand-up artist Varun Grover. It deals with the conflict of the ideologies of the older, conservative generation and those of the more progressive youth.
The 17-min short cocks a snook at the Central Board for Film Certification in India, popularly known as the Censor Board. It is set in a preview theatre, where a young filmmaker waits in the hope of getting his new sci-fi drama certified with ‘no cuts’ by the conservative Censor Board. But the Board takes exception to a kissing scene which extends beyond the duration stipulated by the orthodox rules. As the filmmaker and board members argue over the length of the kiss, the laws of physics disintegrate around them.
