Insurance ‘scam’: CBI raids 10 places in Rasjathan, Delhi
The CBI on Wednesday conducted searches at premises of the then aide of former J&K governor Satya Pal Malik at 10 locations in Delhi and Rajasthan in the alleged insurance scam case.
As per officials, the agency sleuths started raids at the wee hours today at the residence of Malik’s then aide Saunak Bali, chartered accountant Sanjay Narang, Virender Singh Rana and Kanwar Singh Rana, Priyanka Chowdhary and Anita in Delhi and Rajasthan. As per an information from the agency, the searches were spread across 10 places in Delhi and two districts in Rajasthan.
The agency move comes within a month of questioning former J&K governor on April 28 which was necessitated after the analysis of financial documents, digital evidence and statements of accused and other persons in the case, the officials said.
After completion of gubernatorial assignments in Bihar, J&K, Goa, and Meghalaya, Malik's statement was recorded in October last year, the CBI registered two FIRs in connection with the corruption allegations levelled by him in the awarding of contracts for a group medical insurance scheme for government employees, and also in the civil works worth `2,200 crore related to the Kiru hydroelectric power project in Jammu and Kashmir. Malik had claimed he was offered a `300-crore bribe for clearing two files during his stint as the governor.
The central anti-corruption probe agency has already booked Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Re-Insurance Brokers Ltd. as accused in its FIR related to a controversial health insurance scheme for J&K government staff reportedly cleared by Malik on August 31, 2018 but later it was scrapped.
