‘My character is emotionally driven’
...Bloody Daddy promises to be a film full of blood and gore, says Shahid Kapoor
The trailer of Bloody Daddy, starring Shahid Kapoor, is out! The actor’s first actioner on the OTT, it is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, and traces the relentless courage of a man struggling against many odds. Ali says it was the producer, Sunir Khetrpal’s idea to make a film inspired by the French movie Sleepless Night. It was shot in just 36 days and is set to stream soon. We talk to Shahid Kapoor about the movie.
BLOODY DADDY SEEMS TO BE A GORY FILM. DO YOU THINK SUCH SUBJECTS DO WELL ON OTT?
I debuted on OTT with Farzi, and I have done Kabir Singh too. I feel we should do something fresh, as audiences want something new every time. Only if the product is good it will work. There’s nowhere to hide on OTT. So, let’s bring in the change and try to do fresh/new stuff.
AS THIS IS YOUR DEBUT ACTIONER, WHAT WERE THE THOUGHTS PASSING THROUGH YOUR MIND?
I just surrendered myself to Ali. He has been doing action films and all his actors look sexy and hot. The whole credit for what I do and how I look on screen goes to Ali. When the action is very raw, it feels nice, as it becomes edgy and sexy. The character is also emotionally-driven. The ambience and the situation need to go hand-in-hand. I couldn’t have asked for anything better than debuting in an action film with Ali.
YOU STARTED OUT WITH SOFT FILMS, BUT NOW YOU’RE DOING FILMS LIKE BLOODY DADDY AND FARZI. IS THAT AN EVOLUTION OF YOUR CAREER?
[Smiles] It’s been eight years since my marriage, so I cannot take out my frustration at home. I have to carry all my frustration onto the sets. Farzi was just a warm-up and in BD I have completely removed all the frustration. At home I am very domesticated. We planned Bloody Daddy three years back, But Covid started. We were wondering how to make it. But Ali has a great production team and we worked very hard to make it despite many challenges. And the best part is, after watching the film we don’t think of the challenges. Ali understands this genre well. It is a privilege for me to be in this film. We were tempted to release it in theatres but it is meant and designed for a platform.
