Cong, allies only tried to fill coffers, says PM

On a whirlwind tour to Odisha and Telangana ahead of the announceme­nt of the Lok Sabha polls schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurate­d and laid the foundation for developmen­t projects worth more than `19,600 crores and `7,200 crores respective­ly. The attack on the Congress was another constant between the events in two states. In Odisha, Mr Modi accused the Congress and its allies of “only focusing on filling their coffers” and in Telangana, he slammed the grand old party for turning the states into its new ATM.

In a scathing attack on Congress in Odisha's Jajpur, Mr Modi said that the Opposition party and its allies only focused on filling their coffers before 2014, when they were in power at the Centre.

Addressing a rally in Jajpur, the Prime Minister reiterated that the Central government is committed to the developmen­t of eastern India, which is filled with natural resources.

“The massive developmen­t work taking place today could have been undertaken earlier as well. But in the years before 2014, the entire focus of the Congress and its allies was only on filling their coffers,” he said.

The Prime Minister told the audience that over the past 10 years, the BJP-led

Central government has made huge investment­s in Odisha. “We want Odisha to become the gateway for Viksit Bharat,” he said.

Mr Modi noted that a permanent house with tap water and gas connection­s, which were once a dream for the poor, is now becoming a reality. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation multiple developmen­t projects worth over `19,600 crore in Chandikhol­e, Odisha. The projects relate to sectors including oil & gas,
