BJP names 2 remaining 2024 candidates
NEW DELHI, MARCH 13
The BJP on Wednesday fielded Delhi unit general secretaries Harsh Malhotra and Yogendra Chandolia from East Delhi and Northwest Delhi Lok Sabha constituencies respectively.
Mr Malhotra, a seasoned organisation man, is serving as state general secretary for the second consecutive term. He replaced cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir in East Delhi while Mr Chandolia replaced singer-turnedpolitician Hans Raj Hans in the Northwest Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
After today’s announcement, BJP has fielded all seven candidates. Out of the seven, only one candidate has been repeated from Delhi.
Notably, there are seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi—Chandni Chowk, Northeast Delhi, East Delhi, Northwest
Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi—all seven held by BJP since 2014.
The party fielded Bansuri Swaraj from the New Delhi seat, Kamaljit Sehrawat from West Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni
Chowk, and Manoj Tiwari from Northeast Delhi.
Apart from Mr Tiwari, not even a single sitting MP was given a ticket.
Giving importance to its organisational people, three candidates—Mr Malhotra, Mr Chandolia, and Ms Sehrawat—are currently serving as BJP’s state general secretaries.
It is also pertinent to mention that all three candidates have served as mayor in East, North, and South Delhi municipal corporations respectively.
Further, Ms Swaraj is currently serving as secretary in the state unit while Mr Tiwari is a former state unit president.
