Defeat ‘dictatorship, hooliganism’: CM to voters

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Welcoming the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll dates, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday accused the BJP of violating the Constitution and tried to crush democracy in the country during the last 10 years of its rule and said the people are “desperately” waiting for the general elections.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appealed to the public to vote against “dictatorship and hooliganism”.

During a press conference earlier, Gopal Rai - the AAP’s Delhi unit convenor - said his party and the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) are ready to fight the Lok Sabha polls with full strength.

In a post in Hindi on X, the Delhi chief minister appealed to the people to vote for Aam Aadmi Party candidates.

“The dates of Lok Sabha polls in the country have been declared. It’s a great festival of democracy. I appeal to all the countrymen to vote this time against dictatorship and hooliganism,” he said.

“The AAP works for real issues of the people and facilitates them. Strengthen our hands by voting on ‘jhaadu’ (broom—the AAP’s election symbol) wherever our candidates are contesting the polls so that we can work for you with more energy,” Mr Kejriwal, the party’s national convenor, added.

Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely demanded a progress card from the BJP of the development works done by its MPs in Delhi in the past 10 years.

He said that Congress and I.N.D.I.A. alliance partners will sweep all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi as the people are fed up with the bluffs of the BJP and determined to defeat the candidates of the communal party.

“BJP plays musical chairs with its sitting MPs for their non-performance and due to the fear of defeat,” Mr Lovely added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Virendra Sachdeva welcomed the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections and has said that “our organisation is our strength.”

“The strength of our organisation, the guidance of senior leadership, and the trust of the people in Prime Minister Narendra Modi give us the confidence to believe that BJP will sweep the elections winning all seats,” the BJP leader said.

Mr Sachdeva further said, “As the election in Delhi has been scheduled for May 25 in the sixth phase we will review our electoral strategy to keep intact the synergy of the party workers and keep the momentum of the campaign constant.”

“The campaign will be mainly positive, taking the achievements and contributions for Delhi’s development amongst the people. But we will also expose the corruption, nepotism, and failures of the development of the Kejriwal government before the last of the voters,” the BJP leader said.

Voting in Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats will take place on May 25, the sixth phase of the general elections.
