Mamata skipped temple to appease ‘infiltrators’: Shah

Didi hits back, says minister spreading lies

- RAJIB CHOWDHURI KOLKATA, APRIL 30

Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday accused West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee of skipping the Ram Mandir inauguration at Ayodhya to appease their votebank of “infiltrators.”

The BJP heavyweight also warned the Trinamul Congress supremo and her de-facto deputy about the end of their rule in the state. Mr Shah further asserted that the voters have to decide if they need parivarvad or a Ram Rajya in the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

Within hours, Ms Banerjee also hit back at Mr Shah from Malda in north Bengal and blamed him of spreading lies about the Central public welfare schemes, allocated to the state.

In Burdwan East, Mr Shah told a BJP poll campaign rally in support of party candidate Asim Sarkar who is an MLA presently, “When Ram Mandir came to existence, invitations were sent to Mamata Didi and her nephew. But they did not attend the ceremony.”

He alleged, ‘Do you know why they didn’t? Because they fear the infiltrators. That’s why they didn’t attend pran pratishtha of Ram Lalla. This election is for deciding if parivaarvad raj or Ram Rajya is needed. Do you want to make bhatije the CM or Narendra Modi the PM again?”

The Union home minister claimed, “Both Mamataji and her nephew are scared of the BJP. Our leaders’ hotel bookings are not allowed. Even if they are made, the thugs of Mamata cancel them. Our leaders don’t even get cars. But BJP karyakartas don’t get scared. Mamataji, you can unleash terror as much as you can but your and your nephew’s departure has been fixed. You have to go.”

Reiterating his tirade against the TMC chief for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) implementation, he then asserted that the infiltrators have been Ms Banerjee’s votebank for which she would not stop their entry here.
