Dhami uses UCC to attract T’gana voters, targets Opp.
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday tried to woo voters in Telangana by promising them a nationwide implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if the BJP retains power at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections. Mr Dhami warned the Opposition of spreading alleged falsehoods against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the reservation issue and invited Telangana voters to come to Uttarakhand in large numbers for the Char Dham pilgrimage.
Addressing a rally in Mahabubabad to seek votes for BJP candidate Ajmeera Sitaram Naik, Mr Dhami said that Uttarakhand has successfully enacted the UCC to ensure equal rights and justice to the people, especially women of all communities in the state.
“The Uttarakhand UCC is bound to bring maximum happiness to the women of the Muslim community, particularly daughters. This will ensure equal rights of property inheritance. Now, the Modi-led Central government has not decided to implement the UCC across the country to homogenise the many aspects of the living cutting across communal barriers. After this, no one will be able to practice the ill tenets of personal laws. For this, people here need to strengthen the hands of the Prime
Minister by voting for the BJP candidate. The UCC in Uttarakhand has become a law and will be implemented soon as its rules and norms are being prepared by the government,” Mr Dhami said. The Uttarakhand CM invited the people of Telangana for the Char Dham pilgrimage to the Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines this season.
“Portals of Yamunotri, Gangotri and Badrinath will open on May 10, while people can visit Kedarnath from May 12. I appeal to the people of Telangana to come for the pilgrimage,” Mr Dhami added.
He said the Opposition is spreading lies against Mr Modi over reservation. “This is untrue. The PM has always favoured reservation as it is aimed at providing opportunities to marginalised sections,” Mr Dhami said.
