2 docs, 7 staff held in RML bribery racket

The CBI on Wednesday unearthed a bribery racket at the top central government hospital in Delhi Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital and arrested two cardiologi­sts on corruption charges.

Cardiology professor Ajay Raj and assistant professor Parvatagou­da Channappag­ouda have been arrested for taking bribes from medical equipment suppliers to use their products and stents, the agency officials said.

The central anti-graft agency sleuths also nabbed medical equipment supplier Naresh Nagpal of Nagpal Technologi­es who paid `2.48 lakh to Parvatagou­da for promoting the sale of medical equipment, Bharat Singh Dalal of Bharti Medical Technologi­es who bribed Raj using UPI twice, and Abrar Ahmed who paid bribes to the Cath Lab in charge in the hospital Rajnish Kumar, they said.

Kumar, and Vikas Kumar have also been arrested.

All the arrested accused were produced before a special court here which sent them to the CBI custody till May 14.

The CBI alleged that Bhuval Jaiswal took bribes for fixing appointmen­ts with doctors while Sanjay Kumar took bribes for fake medical certificat­es.

A probe revealed that the accused were collecting bribes from the patients and the medical equipment suppliers. “The agency arrested nine persons, including doctors, clerks of RML and middlemen and medical equipment suppliers after carrying out searches at around 15 locations, including the hospital on Wednesday,” the agency officials said.

In its FIR the agency named a professor and an assistant professor of the cardiology department of RML, a senior technical incharge, a nurse, two clerks, several private medical equipment supplier companies and unknown government servants.
