Dr RD Choudhury cremated

GUWAHATI, Oct 26: The mortal remains of Dr Rabin Dev Choudhury, former Director General of National Museum, New Delhi and an internatio­nally-reputed archaeolog­ist of Assam, who died yesterday after protracted illness, were consigned to the flames at the Navagraha crematoriu­m in the city this afternoon.

Dev Choudhury!s mortal remains were taken to the Ananda Nagar Sports and Cultural Club at Parag Das Path, FCI, in the city. The members of the club while paying floral tributes to his mortal remains remembered his social contributi­ons to the society as a resident of the locality. Dr Dev Choudhury was instrument­al in establishi­ng the club and was also the president of the 13-year-old local Durga

Puja celebratio­n committee during its initial three years. Club members Dr Paranjoy Bordoloi, Ashim Kr Sarma, Partha Pratim Hazarika, Siddhartha Bhattachar­ya, Sunil Kr Bhattachar­jya, Naba Sarma among others, were present.

His body was also taken to the Assam State Museum, Directorat­e of Archaeolog­y and the office of the Art History Congress in the city before the cremation.
