3 KNF(N) cadres held


IMPHAL, Oct 26: Three cadres of the Nehlun faction of the Kuki National Front (KNF-N), allegedly involved in the recent killing of three civilians including a minor in Kangpokpi district, have been arrested, the police stated on Monday.

On October 12, suspected be cadres of the KNF (N) opened fire at a gathering at B Gamnom village who were mourning the death of four KNLA militants killed in a gun fight with security forces on October 10. In the indiscrimi­nate firing, two civilians including the chief of N Kholen village, were killed on the spot. A minor, who was also injured in the firing, died later in hospital.

Addressing a press conference, Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha stated that three cadres of the KNF (N) involved in the shootout, were arrested in a joint operation by Imphal West Police and troops of 15 Assam Rifles yesterday. He identified the arrested cadres as Seigoulun Singsit (20), Henminlun

Misao alias Kevin (29), and Hentinseh Singsit alias SP (30) ' all from Kangpokpi district.

The SP said that the joint team arrested the trio during an operation at Moidangpok and New Keithelman­bi areas along the NH-37.

Preliminar­y investigat­ion revealed that Singsit has been working under the vice chairman of the outfit, Mangsat Haokip. He is also involved in kidnapping, extortion of money from the general public and looting vehicles plying on the NH-2, the SP added.
