Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani executive meet held in Nalbari


GUWAHATI, Oct 26: The first executive meeting of the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani, 2021-23 session, was held on Sunday in the auditorium of Nalbari Commerce College.

Organized under the auspices of the Nalbari Zila Sanmilani, the meeting began with the Sanmilani flag-hoisting and singing of the Sanmilani anthem. Dr Dinesh Chakravart­y, district unit secretary, delivered the welcome address. Prof Sagar Boruah, president of the Sanmilani, in his speech appealed to all the members to make concerted efforts to strengthen the financial base of the organizati­on and work towards winning the support and goodwill of the people across the State. Minku Kalita, the outgoing general secretary, lauded the new president, general secretary, and the district committees for carrying out the organizati­onal activities despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

A few important decisions were taken in the meeting. It was decided that the forthcomin­g Sanmilani foundation day celebratio­n and literary festival, scheduled in February 2022, will be organized by the Sonitpur Zila Sanmilani at Rangapara. Furthermor­e, it was confirmed that the next convention of the Sanmilani, in 2023, will take place in west Jorhat under the auspices of the Jorhat Zila Sanmilani.

In addition to the central committee members, namely, Prof Dilip Borah (chief organizer), Prof Mukul Chakravart­y (working president), Prof Anuradha Sarma (former general secretary and present executive body member), and Ramakanta Pathak (working president of Nalbari Zila Sanmilani), the executive meeting was also attended by members from eight district committees of the organizati­on.

Samayar Gaan, a book of poems written by Aparna Devi and published by Nalbari Zila Sanmilani, was also released on the occasion. This was stated by Dr Dhurjjati Sarma, general secretary of the Sanmilani, in a press release issued here today.
