Exhibition, sale of products made by children, adults with disabiliti­es at Rudraksha Mall


GUWAHATI, Oct 26 : In its bid to promote inclusive growth, Sahayika Sishu Nirdeshana Kendra # a registered not for profit organisati­on working with children and adults with intellectu­al disability, autism and hearing impairment has organised an annual exhibition and sale of a variety of products prepared by the special children and adults at the Rudraksha Mall, Guwahati.

The exhibition showcases a variety of terracotta diyas and other artifacts, bamboo handicraft, handloom products, home linen and products made from plastic and newspaper waste. Each of these products are beautifull­y hand crafted by the differentl­y able students undergoing holistic special education and vocational skills training at the institute.

$The purpose of such exhibition­s is to provide an avenue to these students to showcase the products made by them. Our aim is to provide them with sustainabl­e livelihood skills and ensure a life of dignity. Acquiring basic fine motor skills required to make these intricate products such as, drawing a line, cutting, colouring etc., are an uphill task for these children and sometimes take them years to master. Today, seeing the end products displayed in the exhibition not only makes us proud but inspires us to leave no stone unturned to empower them,% said Ipsita Sharma, principal and secretary of Sahayika.

The exhibition was inaugurate­d on Monday by Sanjay Chabbra, the managing Director of Synpack Pvt. Ltd., owner of Rudraksh Mall in the presence of executive committee members, staff, students and parents of Sahayika. The exhibition will continue till November 4.
