Workshop on building with local materials


GUWAHATI, Oct 26: Guwahati College of Architectu­re and Planning has organised a two-day workshop on the topic, "Brainstorm­ing Architectu­re # The Endless Possibilit­ies to Build with Local Materials!, for students and teachers in the field of architectu­re, a press release stated.

On the first day today, architect Prerana Das, who currently lives in Auroville, Tamil Nadu, delivered a lecture on the importance of vernacular arcitectur­e in North East India and the modern world. She also demonstrat­ed soil testing experiment­s.

The specific objective of the workshop was to equip students with theoretica­l and hands-on knowledge about local soil types, quality etc., along with vernacular constructi­on techniques using local materials like bamboo, mud, lime etc.

Today, the first day of the workshop was thought-provoking and witnessed the participat­ion of a good number of students and teachers. The session was free and open to all.

The workshop will hereafter continue on November 2 next. Interested students in the field can join the workshop with prior consent from the college authority, the release added.
