New Delhi: In the wake of the BJP being forced to postpone its rath yatra in West Bengal and violence against its leaders in the state, party chief Amit Shah on Friday said the Mamta Banerjee government is strangling the democratic system but this will not deter his party from taking on the TMC and it will continue the struggle to oust the ruling dispensation there.

Talking to reporters here, Shah sa- id Banerjee is “scared” of the momentum that the BJP is building in West Bengal in the preparation for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“We had written a letter to the home secretary and the DGP of West Bengal on October 29 seeking permission to hold the rath yatra. Reminders were sent on November 5, 12 and 20,” Shah said, adding that there was no response from the government. The BJP chief announced that he will visit West Bengal on Saturday and meet party workers in Kolkata.
