New Delhi: The Centre on Friday unveiled a list of 19 more educational institutions recommended by an expert panel for the Institute of Eminence status. This will take the total number of institutes in the much-coveted category to 30.
The new batch includes two greenfield institutes, which are yet to commence operations like Jio University in the first list announced in July. These are Bharti Enterprisesbacked Satya Bharti University and Krea University, which has former central bank governor Raghuram Rajan as its adviser. ET was the first to report, on Friday, of the government’s plan to announce the names of more institutes ahead of a December 10 University Grants Commission meeting, where the list would be put up for approval.
Jio, Satya Bharti and KREA will share space with a clutch of new private universities that have been making their presence felt in the higher education space: OP Jindal University, Shiv Nadar University and Ashoka University. Vellore Institute of Technology, Amrita Vidyapeeth, Indian Institute of Human Settlement are among other private institutes on the new list.
