New Delhi: In­dia has pro­posed set­ting up of an ‘In­dia-Cen­tral Asia De­vel­op­ment Group’ at the maiden In­dia-Cen­tral Asia di­a­logue in Samarkand,Uzbek­istan.The­group mayen­ableNewDel­hi­to­ex­pandits foot­prints in the re­source-rich re­gion amid China’s mas­sive in­roads and to fight ter­ror ef­fec­tively, in­clud­ing in Afghanistan.

“De­vel­op­ment part­ner­ship has emerged as an im­por­tant com­po­nent of In­dia’s en­gage­ment with other coun­tries. To­day, I of­fered to ex­tend this part­ner­ship to Cen­tral Asia, where we can bring our coun­tries closer by tak­ing up con­crete projects, in­ter alia, un­der our Lines of Credit and

Buy­ers’ Credit, and by shar­ing our ex­per­tise. In this con­nec­tion,

All our coun­tries will be rep­re­sented in this G2G group. This group will be re­quested to come up with con­crete pro­pos­als,” Swaraj an­nounced on Sun­day at the meet com­pris­ing for­eign min­is­ters of all five Cen­tral Asian states and Afghanistan. Invit­ing Cen­tral Asian states to take ad­van­tage of Iran’s Chabahar Port where In­dia is run­ning part op­er­a­tions and ex­pand­ing the port, Swaraj said: “We will be happy to see par­tic­i­pa­tion from Cen­tral Asian­coun­tries at the forth­com­ing Chabahar Day In­ter­na­tional Con­fer­ence in Chabahar on Febr uary 26.”
