2G: CBI moves SC to lodge perjury case against general secy of NGO
New Delhi, Sept 5: In the Prashant Bhushan and Ranjit Sinha face-off, the CBI on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking registration of an FIR against advocate Kamini Jaiswal, general secretary of an NGO, for allegedly making “deliberate and intentional false statements on oath” relating to probe into the 2G scam.
The development comes at a time when CBI chief Ranjit Sinha has been allegedly accused of interfering in the 2G and coal scam cases and trying to scuttle the probe.
CPIL, an NGO through counsel Prashant Bhushan, has sought a direction to Sinha to recuse from the 2G and coal scam investigations as he also allegedly attempted to save former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran in the Aircel-Maxis case.

terfered with the probe in the Aircel-Maxis deal or in keeping away Santosh Rastogi, DIG, from the 2G cases.
It even disputed NGO CPIL's contention that Sinha as director was “admonished” by the apex court in the coal scam for showing the sta- tus report to the government.
It further denied the allegation that Sinha overruled all investigating officers and director of prosecution on the issue of filing chargesheet. “Hence a case of perjury needs to be registered,” CBI said. The agency also said that Jaiswal in the application for recusal of Sinha from the 2G matter has “further made a deliberate false statement on oath that Santosh Rastogi, DIG, was a lead investigating officer who was transferred out of the 2G investigation and relieved”.
“Rastogi was neither the lead investigator nor was transferred out of 2G investigation nor relieved. Rastogi is only a supervisory officer, who joined as the head of anti-corruption branch (ACB), Delhi, on October 30, 2012 much after filing of the chargesheet when the trial started,” the CBI said. It said Rastogi is first layer supervisory officer in one case in 2009 (involving A Raja) and second layer supervisory officer in two cases registered in 2011 and was transferred on July 16, 2014, from ACB, Delhi branch, to special crime Branch in CBI Delhi in chain of DIG level transfers and "it is noteworthy tha the had never been relieved from ACB, Delhi till date”.
