As calm as we can be, PC

-

The people of India are calm on all fronts, as advised by the finance minister, P Chidambaram but the fronts aren't. The markets are volatile, be it the Sensex or Nifty or the Indian Rupee and may we add a kilo of onions to this discussion, please? It seems that the dollar has a target of 67 (rupees) to coincide with our 67th year of Independence . The fear is will it try to keep pace with future I-Day anniversaries or will this only continue until the 2014 general election? Even PC is aware that there is a 'threshold' to everything. I think that instead of depleting the balance forex reserves as being suggested by some economists, why can’t our elected leaders, in the spirit of patriotic sacrifice quietly dump all their illegally acquired wealth, the 'upar ki kamayee' at the altar of the nation, just this once, under voluntary amnesty? They can recover all of it if elected again in 2014, after all, they are masters in that art. Howerver, if they wish to redemonstrate this patriotic spirit every year, we, the Indian citizens, will certainly not complain. And now, which next bank branch are you going to inaugurate? And as a prelude to the Food Security Bill, how about a pilot project of the Onion Security Bill?
