Indian brothers, sisters must get day off
In response to an RTI petition transferred under section 6(3) of the RTI Act to hundreds of offices of the Delhi government, interesting data emerged that more than 80 per cent government employees avail of the Raksha Bandhan holiday, one of the two restricted ones allowed to them. Similar data is likely to emerge if a study on the holiday options of the central government employees and public sector undertakings, including banks is carried out. The Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court too observe Raksha Bandhan as a holiday, ditto for Parliament. So why cannot the general public get a holiday?
