PROF HARSHA PAREKH
Former Professor of Library Science and university Librarian, SNDT Women’s University HEF Award for Outstanding Contribution to Library Science
Prof Harsha Parekh is closely associated with the UGC’s programme on Capacity Building for Women Managers in Higher Education. She is a member of the National Consultative Committee. She is also the Hon Director of the Networking and Information Dissemination Cell set up to support the activities of the scheme.
Prof Parekh retired in 2003 as Professor of Library Science and University Librarian from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai. With an MA (Political Science) and MLISc from Mumbai University, she started her career in Library Science in 1970 as lecturer. She has received the Best Teacher Award of the Government of Maharashtra in 1998.
She pioneered the application of information technology to libraries and information services as early as the mid-1980s at SNDT Women’s University Library.
Her academic interests continue as she guides research scholars and is on several university committees. She has over 70 publications and has acted as a director and resource person for several international, national and local conferences.
Currently she is Executive Trustee of The Bombay Community Public Trust, which partners with NGOs working for the development of the city and its people.
