Over 150 MD/MS students pass out
MUMBAI: Over 150 MD/MS medical students out of 250 students across the State passed after the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences took into consideration the marks of the two best theory papers out of three. The move came after members of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) went on a one-day strike following the alterations in the exam-checking pattern. The students are overjoyed by the news as in the changed pattern, they were to lose a year. “I had fared quite well in two examinations and according to old pattern had passed. With the introduction of the new pattern, I was losing a year and very much terrified by the news,” said Dr Gautam Kaushal Chandra from KEM Hospital. There are many doctors who have passed merely by one or two marks. “I had failed by one mark and now have passed by 25 marks straightaway. I know seven others who have passed in the same way. There must be more than just seven and we are sure of it,” said another doctor. Dr Swapnil Kulkarni, spokesperson for Central MARD, said due to the new system of mark declaration they are unable to confirm exactly how many students have passed in total. “The results are being displayed against the roll numbers this time. We are constantly keeping a tab to get the exact number of students who have passed. But there are 150 students for sure who have cleared their papers,” added Dr Kulkarni. The doctors also said that their demands don’t end here and they will try for getting their paper revalued and get the photocopy of their answer sheets if asked. (Swati Jha)
