Tricks won’t work now, Mulayam taunts Jaitley

- FROM OUR BUREAU

Adopting a soft rustic approach, the senior socialist leader Mulayam Singh launched a focussed attack on the union finance minister Arun Jaitley as he cautioned the ruling establishment that it does not have any excuses and there would be ‘bad days ahead’ if the poll promises are not fulfilled.

“After 30 years the people of the country have elected any party with absolute majority. Now you do not have excuses, and you must fulfil your pre-election promises. You would recall that your prime ministerial candidate used to tell the people that a twenty percent decline in prices would take place immediately. Has it happened? On the contrary, the prices have gone up, and there is no roadmap as to how these would be controlled,” said Yadav.

Finding fault with the budget for ignoring the interests of the far mers, the rural folks and the jobless youth, the Samajwadi leader said that government is talking of 100 smart cities. ”I want to ask you, why this penchant for smart cities? Why not have smart villages? After all, everyone knows that India lives in it villages, and you are ignoring them,” he said.

“The youth has been won over your by your slogans and promises of change. But this section would not wait for long, and if their discontent comes out in the open, there would be a difficult situation. There are more than 18 crore people awaiting jobs, of temporary and permanent nature, and you have no roadmap for providing jobs,” he said while adding that even though elections may be won by tricks, this approach does not work while running the country.

Yadav who was heckled by members of the treasury benches on the issue of high incidence of rapes in his home state, retaliated that the BJP ruled states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan had the worst track record in this respect. ”Please ask your home minister about it,” he said.
