Winter chill is here to stay

- STAFF REPORTER

Do not pack your woollen clothes back, as chilly nights and early mornings is going to remain for atleast next six days in the city. According to the weather department, the minimum temperature until March 10 is expected to be around 15 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday dipped down to 14.7 degree Celsius in Santacruz, which was five degrees below normal while that at Colaba was 18.5 degrees Celsius, which again was two degrees below normal. The maximum temperature at Santacruz was 29.3 degrees Celsius, which was 3.5 degrees below normal while that at Colaba was 25.8 degrees which was 3.4 degrees below normal.

The weather department has anticipated the temperature to continue to be low especially during the early mornings with cloudy sky. The drop in the temperature, they say is a result of the rains that Mumbai received recently.

V K Rajiv, Regional Director of Indian Meteorological Department said, “It is a general pattern wherein the temperature witnesses a fall after the rains which has been the case. We are expecting the temperatures to rise eventually after a couple of days.”

The minimum temperature is expected to gradually rise by two degrees and hover between 16 to 17 degrees Celsius. The change in the wind pattern following the rainfall will be the contributing factor for the temperature to rise. The wind pattern which was until now Northerly, bringing the temperature down, is now changing to Easterly which is expected to take the mercury levels up after few days.
