The state government has been an utter failure on all fronts, NCP state unit chief Sunil Tatkare said here at a press conference on Wednesday.

“The government had declared a relief package for farmers about two months ago. But he has not distributed the compensation money as yet. Even now, when untimely rains have created havoc, the state government is not acting (for the benefit of farmers) at all,” Tatkare said.

The government had announced package of more than Rs 7000 crore but delivered nothing, he added.

“The safety of women and children, too, is at stake in the state. The law and order situation is being questioned. But, again, the government is not acting,” Tatkare said.

Tatkare also criticised the anti-cow slaughter Act.

“The Act that prohibited cow slaughter had been there for long. I don’t know what the need is to have a new legislation,” he said, adding that the mentality behind such a legislation would be revealed only after the government starts implementing the law.

Tatkare also targeted Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for his criticism of the new development plan for Mumbai.

“If they (the Shiv Sena) are criticising the plan now, why didn’t they act when the plan was being drafted? After all, they are ruling the (municipal) corporation,” he said.

Tatkare also announced his party’s plan to celebrate the year starting from March 8 as ‘Kritadnyata Varsha’ (year of gratitude) as a homage to party chief Sharad Pawar.

“Maharashtra was the first state to have a ‘women’s policy’ when Sharad Pawar was the chief minister. He always worked for women empowerment. To highlight his efforts on that front, the party plans to celebrate the year as ‘Kritadnyata Varsha’,” he said.
