Dirty Politics: Seamy, but not steamy
Asupposed expose on the seamier side of politicians, this film top-lining Mallika Sherawat, aims to get the audience in with its ungainly, corpulent, sexual impropriety. Do not go by the versatile class of male actors lending their fame to this monstrosity.
You definitely shouldn’t expect any great performances from this lot who appear to have been misled by the promise of International fame based on fragile and undependable hopes of a cinematic coupling with the desi diva who, as the PR set claim, is quite popular among the international set of film festival regulars. Why else would they consent to this ungainly exercise in sleazy cinema?
A social climber, wannabe Chief Minister, Anokhi Devi (Mallika Sherawat) and her partner (Rajpal Yadav) wrangle their way into the Deputy CM post through some unedifying sexual manoeuvring. Anokhi Devi, a dancer gets intimate with Deenanath and makes a tape of their bed scene, using blackmail to get close to the CM’s chair. The game of cat and mouse between Anokhi and Deenanath continue and the stakes get higher and higher. She now wants to sit on his chair. Will he relinquish?
You really don’t want to know what transpired thereafter because by then you just want to get out of having to suffer through some terrible skin show with a corpulent, pot-bellied septuagenarian trying to do the impossible. At least it appeared that way from where I was sitting.
K C Bokadia’s days of setting up a juicy pot-boiler for the front-bencher audience is long way past. Using stinging dialogues, steamy sequences and conniving moves, he tries to make it all happen but it just doesn’t. There’s really no excitement or bite in this rather unsavory product. Neither do the versatile lot of well-known male actors, Jackie Shroff, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Anupam Kher, Ashutosh Rana, Govind Namdeo, Rajpal Yadav, Sushant Singh do anything worthy to keep the interest going. Mallika Sherawat’s skin show doesn’t do the trick either. There’s distension here and it’s not very happening either!
