Banerjee’s mother seeks transfer of probe to C Branch

- STAFF REPORTER

Actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s mother Shoma Banerjee on Wednesday filed a criminal petition in Bombay High Court seeking transfer of her daughter’s case from the local police to the Crime Branch. The court will be hearing the matter on today.

In her petition, Shoma has urged the court to transfer the investigations to Crime Branch since she feared that the Bangur Nagar police who are currently probing her daughter’s case is in collusion with the accused Rahul Raj Singh.

Advocate KT Thomas, who appeared for Shoma informed the court that the Bangur Nagar police was misleading the probe and that her client fears that the probe may get scuttled in the future.

He informed the court that the FIR was registered on April 5 irrespective of the fact that Shoma had on April 2, informed the police that she suspects Rahul to be behind the death of her daughter who was found dead at her home under suspicious circumstances.

In the petition, it is alleged that Rahul is a drug-addict and he lured many a girls in the city on pretext of offering them roles in films. It is also alleged that Rahul took off all the money of the deceased actor and that he tortured her mentally and physically.

The petition further reads that Rahul was already marriage and had an affair with one Saloni who was also involved in the alleged torture to Pratyusha. In her petition, Shoma has stressed on the importance of Rahul’s arrest for interrogation and has also named one Mr Aziz Ali, who she claims to be a close associate of Rahul and is absconding. She has also alleged that instead of seriously investigating the matter, the Bangur Nagar police was giving a free hand to the accused to destroy the evidence.

Thomas pressed in for the transfer of investigations saying, “We seek that the probe to be transferred to the Crime Branch and that too under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police or some other sub-ordinate officer."
