CCI's Natasha & Kareena enter into quarter-finals

MUMBAI: Cricket Club of India's (CCI) Natasha Daswani and Kareena Madan registered contrastin­g wins to enter the women's quarter-finals in the Greater Mumbai district badminton championsh­ip, jointly organized by Jitesh Padukone Shuttlers' Academy and NIA under the aegis of GMBA. Natasha lost the first game but, came back strongly to overcome Matunga Gymkhana's Anaghaa Chakrapani 15-21, 2115, 21-11 at the NIA badminton courts. The top seeded Kareena had an easy outing as she outplayed Sayali Dabholkar 21-6, 21-6 while, Riya Arolkar beat Samiaa Shah 22-20, 21-19 in a closely fought battle. Madhumita Kandalgaon­kar and Arundhati Sabban dominated their respective matches to progress to the quarterfin­als. In the boys u-10 group, Omkar Kshirsagar and Arnav Kumar secured comfortabl­e wins while, Parth Lele won a close match to advance to the quarter-finals.

BCCI to convene SGM in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: The BCCI on Tuesday decided to convene a Special General Meeting of its affiliated units in Mumbai on August 5 to discuss about the implementa­tion of the Lodha Committee Recommenda­tions as per Supreme Court directives. The state unit members have been apprised about the developmen­t. "Yes, we have received an e-mail from the BCCI that there will be an SGM on August 5 at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai. The agenda is to discuss the implementa­tion of the Supreme Court directives," a member of state unit confirmed the developmen­t to PTI. The idea of calling SGM before president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke meeting Lodha Panel on August 9 in New Delhi is to take stock of the current situation and also the viewpoint of the members regarding practical difficulti­es of implementa­tion, before it is placed before the committee.
