Leather bag row: Cops get magistrate’s nod
Mumbai police on Monday got permission from the Metropolitan Magistrate to investigate the shocking incident of alleged harassment of a creative director Barun Kashyap by self-proclaimed cow vigilantes in the city. The incident earned huge brickbats on social media like twitter and facebook, where many of them raised suspicion over the veracity of the allegation made by the creative director.
The 24-year-old Kashyap was allegedly heckled by a group of cow vigilantes in the city on Friday morning when he was on the way to work in Andheri in an auto-rickshaw, whose driver warily checked if his ‘leather bag’ was made of cowhide. In his complaint, Kashyap mentioned that the driver steered the auto-rickshaw near a temple and beckoned three people, who came to Kashyap to look into if the ‘leather bag’ was made of cowhide.
Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe confirmed that a case has been registered under section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code. “Case registered u/s 504,506. Now we got the permission for investigation u/s 155(2) CrPC,” said Dudhe.
The senior officers of Mumbai police are in constant touch with Kashyap, who hails from Assam.
Meanwhile, in conversation with Free Press Journal, Kashyap said, “The city police have been very helpful in law and order system. As a responsible citizen, I did my bit by complaining it (the matter) and they are taking the matter very seriously. I have full faith in the police system.” Kashyap further added that he is fully co-operating with the Mumbai police in the case, adding, “My case is being tackled on a priority basis.”
Asked whether he is going to leave the city after this incident, Kashyap said, “I love this city, where I have been living and will be living here for a very long time.”
The incident has hampered the productivity level of 24year-old Kashyap, who said he has not slept properly after the shocking incident as so many people including political parties are calling him continuously.
