Wi-Fi power to 8 suburban stations
Inaugurating various passenger amenities, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday briefed the media about major ongoing railway projects and informed about the futuristic plans for betterment of the Mumbai suburban section of both Western Railway and Central Railway.
Prabhu inaugurated hispeed Wi-Fi services at eight railway stations of Mumbai namely at Kalyan, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Dadar (Western Railway and Central Railway), Bandra Terminus, Bandra, Churchgate and Khar Road stations.
Prabhu also dedicated Central Railway’s 12-car Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) services on Harbour line, two new 12coach platforms for harbour line, and two lifts at Andheri.
He also inaugurated deck and booking office at Goregaon, Foot over Bridge (FOB) at Karjat, Shahad, Kurla, King's Circle, Reay Road and Chembur. He also inaugurated FOB, escalator at Vasai Road and Nallasopara by unveiling the plaque. Prabhu also inaugurated the newly developed garden at Central Railway's Dadar station under Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Amenities like air conditioned dormitory at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, water recycling plant and Bio-toilet for differently abled persons at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus were also inaugurated by the Railway Minister.
Similarly, deluxe toilets at Kurla, Thane, pay and use toilet at Mahalaxmi, "Namma" toilet at Khar Road and toilets at Kalyan & Govandi were inaugurated by Railway Minister. At present, Wi-Fi facility is currently being operated at Mumbai Central station. According to Railway Ministry, it has set up a target of providing Wi-Fi facility at 100 stations by year end.
Ravindra Bhaker, Western Railways PRO said, “We have received exceptional response after the Wi-Fi facility was launched at Mumbai Central Railway station. We have almost one lakh people using the facility on the mainline and suburban station.”
