Congress ridicules Modi for shift to nationalism

-

The Congress on Wednesday ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to the BJP leaders to be the champions of nationalism, reminding him that that it was not nationalism that brought him to power as claimed by him at a BJP core group meeting here on Tuesday.

"It was development, jobs, growth, and good governance, promise of alleviating poor from poverty, eradicating inflation & bringing ''Acche Din'' for all. PM has conveniently forgotten it but people of India can see through his statement," Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a statement.

Accusing Modi of shifting the goal posts, he said the people of India will hold him accountable not just for his ''pseudo nationalism'' but also fake and unfulfilled promises of "achchhe din" in characteristic ''Jumla style'' stands exposed before the nation. "Those who had no sacrifice, participation and intent in creating Indian nation state can never be trusted as propagators or champions of nationalism. Rather, the Modi establishment has converted India into a nation state where liberal traditions are under serious assault and mockery of law is rampant," Surjewala said.
