This hospital gets suprising visitors

4 snakes found in Bhagwati Hospital’s blood bank

Staffers in the blood bank of Bhagwati Hospital at Borivali (W) had some surprise visitors on Thursday. Four snakes were spotted in the premises of the blood bank and the staff had to call experts to catch them and release them back in the jungle area. According to Dr Navnath Jadhav, blood bank in-charge, this incident took place in the morning when one of the technicians on duty happened to see a snake in the compound area. “He immediately alerted the staff and in a short time we called the experts who managed to catch the reptiles,” he said.

Another doctor said that this is not the first time that snakes have been spotted in the blood bank area. “The reason for this is that the Dahisar river that starts from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park flows just behind this building and this is how these snakes managed to reach here,” he said.In fact, the blood bank is still located in the old building of the hospital that has been completely vacated except for this place, sources said. “This is a dilapidated structure and in fact the blood bank is also going to be shifted to the new building in a few months,” he revealed. However, the old building is in a very bad condition at present and there are leakages and cracks at different places. When asked about the snakes, Dr Jadhav said that though the staffers were a bit frightened when they saw them slithering around in the compound, there was no panic among them. “The reason for this is that these seemed to be non poisonous and hence there was no reason to be afraid,” he added.

Sources said that the snakes that have been caught will be released back in the jungle so they can live in their natural habitat. “The reptiles sometimes stray from their natural surroundings and wander into urban areas. Therefore, we have to catch them and put their back in their natural place if such a situation comes up,” an official said.
