Rains disrupt life

Normal to heavy rainfall in the city disrupted life in the city in the last 48 hours. The weatherman has predicted rainfall at regular intervals in the next 24 hours.

On Wednesday, the island city recorded 84.7 mm rainfall; western suburbs recorded 95.89 mm, while eastern suburbs registered 76.27 mm rainfall, according to civic body weather stations.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at regular intervals is likely to occur at one or two places in the city today,” said a senior official at MET Department, Mumbai regional office.

The official informed that other parts of the state have also recorded adequate rainfall.

According to MET department figures, weather station at Dahanu Road recorded 111.5 mm rainfall, Alibaugh 72.8 mm, Ratnagiri 38.9 mm, Mahabalesh­war 106.2 mm, Harnail 218.9 mm, Nashik 11 mm and Satara 25.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. According to an official attached to Disaster Management Control Room of MCGM, at no untoward incident was reported so far including instances of water logging.

Met department has also issued high tide warning on September 23 morning 5.05a.m expected high tide is 3.86meters and morning 11.03a.m expected high tide is 1.93meters.

Due to heavy rain only one house had been collapsed in city, however seventeen trees had fallen in Mumbai, four in city, five in eastern suburbs and eight in western suburbs. Total nine short circuits had happen in Mumbai, five in city and two in both eastern and western suburbs. Meanwhile, the steady spell of rains has resulted in full supply stocks of water in all the seven reservoirs which supply water to Mumbai city.

“We are happy to inform that all lakes have reached up to the full supply level (FSL) marks and we won't be having water scarcity for entire year,” said a senior official of MCGM Hydrologic­al department. Deputy Municipal Commission­er (General Administra­tion) Sudhir Naik said transport services under BEST and suburban rail services were running normal and no major water logging was reported in the metropolis. However, traffic snarls on few routes in the city was experience­d due to rains.
