Anti-Pak artiste call draws flak

Political parties deplore the MNS ultimatum to Pak artistes to leave India in 48 hours

-

Even as the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena gave a 48 hour ultimatum to all Pakistani film artistes and television actor to quit from India, political parties have deplored this statement and have said that this is being done to gain political mileage.

The MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Ameya Khopkar has said that there is an "an antiPakistan" wave across India after the September 18 terror attack that led to the death of 18 Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir. "The MNS calls upon all Pakistanis working in Indian tele-serials, films and other shows to leave the country within 48 hours. If they fail to do so, we shall deal with them in our style," Khopkar warned.

Reacting to this, state Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant said that it is entire for the Union Government to decide what steps need to be taken to deal with the Pakistan issue. “This is merely a publicity stunt. If the MNS is really keen to make themselves heard on this subject, then they should go to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and say it,” he said. The fact is that today MNS stands completely isolated and they have no political agenda and hence they are taking up such issues to get political mileage, he added.

According t Nawab Malik, spokesman for the Nationalist Congress Party, it is a fact that people are sentimental on the issue of Pakistan and this has to be understood by all. “But at the same time it is not right for people to take law into their own hands,” he said. If the MNS feels that Pakistani artistes and actors should not be allowed to perform in India then they should convey this to the Central Government and ask them to take the necessary steps, he suggested.

Congress MLC, Bahi Jagtap said that it is a known fact that the people are upset due to the recent killing of Indian soldiers in Uri in Kashmir.

“But something like this has to be tackled at the government level and not by individuals making such statements,” he said.

In fact, this is the time that the entire country of 120 crore people must strongly support the Central Government on this issue and allow it to deal in the right manner, he said. It is not right for individual parties to take advantage of this situation and try to make political capital out of this, he felt. “It is not as if the MNS people are greater patriots than us and only they feel strongly about this situation,” he said.
